Wind Power

I am the Business Development Manager for Proven Energy in North America. We are a Scottish based manufacturer of very robust small wind turbines. We sell on a global scale and are trying our best to keep up with demand as a growing company!

I am crazy on skis, bikes and anything else that is fast and doesn't require motors. I prefer big mountains in the backcountry and like to earn my turns on the way up.

If it's good I'll listen. If it's live, even better.

Ishmel, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, The World Without Us, all Edward Abbey, Omnivore's Dillema, Jon Krakauer stuff, Barbara Kingsolver, George Orwell, and more.

My favorites are documentaries like 'Who Killed the Electric Car' or even better 'Taken for a Ride'. I also love watching movies my friends and I make of us playing in the mountains.

I am just trying to save the world one day at a time while I enjoy the best life has to offer. I might be spiritual, but don't believe in organized religion.

All. Small wind is only a part of the solution, though it is certainly necessary as distributed generation will help with demand pressures and brings a sense of ownership and responsibility onto people that is too often lost in 'conventional' power generation.

Small wind power, eh? Sounds like something to look into. One thing we have here in Nevada, besides the geothermal I've blogged about, is an over abundance of wind and not just the hot air from Carson City. In Carlin Canyon on the Humboldt all the trees and bushes grow facing upstream because of the constant winds blowing from west to east. How robust are these generators ie: what wind speeds will eventually blow them to pieces? (I've clocked 95 mph in the canyon with a storm blowing in)
