Electrical Safety - Do you test your GFCIs?
Posted On 03/03/2009 08:52 PM by WisperingWinds

GFCI or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters are probably one of the most significant devices invented to protect life. With that said, be aware that they are not fool proof and need to be tested on a regular basis, at least once a month.

You will find these special receptacles in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and basements, among other places. You need to push the test button once a month. Properly operating GFCI receptacles should trip after pushing the test button and then reset with the reset button.

If you can't perform this test, please have a qualified handyman test them for you. If you find any that do not trip after pushing the test button, please have them replaced by a qualified electrician as your safety depends on proper operation.
