At the moment i am blogging from the home of Chuck McGrew, the The Vice president of the Central Flroida Scottish Highland Games Council of the 32nd Annual Scottish Central Highlands Games in Orlando, Florida.
The games yesterday we're Awesome!!!! This was the biggest gathering i have ever been to. I usually go to the Gatlinburg Highland games. It was like the NFL superbowl of Scottish Games!
I arrived at 3:13am Saturday night on my bike. It was cold and damp! I thought i mught freeze so i walked around to stay warm and stayed under the McGregor tent seeking shelter. As the sun rose over the games people began to arive slowly then before i new it there we're over 10,000 people at the festival!
I was given the honor of Carrying the McGregor Banner in the time honored Kirkin' o' the Tartans. And carried out Tartan Flag twice yesterday thru the parade field!
I was intervied by the Donald McCallum and the Athletics Announcer Carleton MacRae Cook. We talked about my GoGreen Bike tour and this summer's great Scottish Homecoming "The Gathering" starting July 25 in Edinburgh. I also talked my ride this summer for the Princes Trust charity at the RobRoy Challenge in Scotland on June 21st,2009.
This year is going to be a great year in Scottish History.
Yesterday, i was given my first McGregor Kilt by Kathy Wilson of Scots Corner of Sarasota, Florida. I am 42 years old and have wanted to wear the McGregor Kilt for as long as I can remember. I was also given Kilt socks, and a McGregor Pin If anyone finds my pin please let me know. It fell of my kilt while i was cycling around the gathering.
I also want to thank the Games Council and it's leadership Chip Crawford and Chuck McGrew ( also a McGregor). I would like to thank the Scot's Corner and Kathy Wilson for their love and support, I want to give a special thanks to Robert McGregor and his wife for their passion in our families history keeping the present alive!! They setup the McGregor Tent that sheltered me when i arrived and throught the day. Thank You everyone that i met! I felt loved and appreciated.
I really enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends at the Festival!!!! I want to come back next year!!! And eat Haggis and a Scottish Egg!
