In recent months, a large portion of my attention has been focused on the availability of the turbines in our company's fleet. Not only has it been a question of how to account for the periods of unavailability, but it has also been a question of how to define what "unavailable" is. In my experience working with people who have worked for power producers for a substantial amount of time, the answer is simple: when the turbine is not operating, it is unavailable. This is not the approach taken by many wind turbine manufacturers, however.
